Neymar Injury Update: Brazilian striker Neymar should be fine to continue in the World Cup despite limping off with a swollen ankle during his team’s 2-0 victory over Serbia on Thursday, coach Tite said. “We are confident that Neymar will continue playing, he will continue playing in the World Cup,” Tite told reporters, confessing that he was initially unaware of his striker’s injury. “I didn’t see Neymar was hurt. And he had the capacity to overcome this, he even tricked me.” Team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar said Brazil would wait 24-48 hours before assessing Neymar’s injury.

World Cup 2022: Midfielder Mario Gotze returns to Germany squad for first time in five years

Eintracht Frankfurt's Goetze, 30, who scored the winning goal in the 2014 World Cup final, has not played for Germany since a friendly against France in November 2017. Bayern Munich teammates Manuel Neuer and Thomas Muller will be playing in their fourth World Cup. Youssoufa Moukoko, Borussia Dortmund's 17-year-old striker, is also included. Moukoko and Werder Bremen's Niclas Fullkrug, who has scored 10 goals in 13 Bundesliga games this season, have both been called up for the first time. Defender Mats Hummel, who played at the last two tournaments, has been left out by manager Hansi Flick, while Dortmund captain Marco Reus misses out on another World Cup with an ankle injury. RB Leipzig's Timo Werner, formerly of Chelsea, is also out after suffering an ankle injury earlier this month that will keep him out until 2023. Manchester City's Ilkay Gundogan and Chelsea forward Kai Havertz are included in the squad, along with West Ham defender Thilo Kehrer and Southampton

Brazil coach Tite on Monday named his 26-man World Cup squad for Qatar, including 39-year-old defender Daniel Alves while leaving out Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino as the five-times champion prepare for the tournament starting on November 20. Aston Villa attacking midfielder Philippe Coutinho is one veteran who didn’t make the list after sustaining a thigh injury in training over the weekend that will sideline him for several weeks. The Brazil boss will be taking only four centre-backs, with Juventus’ Bremer behind Marquinhos, Thiago Silva and Eder Militao, while leaving Roger Ibanez (Roma) and Gabriel Magalhaes (Arsenal) out. Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli was included in a list dominated by 12 players from the English Premier League. The Brazilian FA also announced that former PSG manager Ricardo Gomes will join Tite’s staff as an assistant. The squad and Tite will gather on November 14 at Juventus’ training facilities in Turin, where Brazil will hold a five-day training camp befo

World Cup 2022: Fifa tells all competing nations to 'focus on football' in Qatar

Image
Fifa has written to all 32 teams competing at the World Cup telling them to "now focus on the football" following a controversial build-up. Host Qatar has been criticised for its stance on same-sex relationships, its human rights record and its treatment of migrant workers. The tournament starts on 20 November. The letter urges that football should not be "dragged" into ideological or political "battles" and it should not be "handing out moral lessons". Peaceful protests have been planned by some players. England's Harry Kane and nine other captains of European teams will be wearing 'One Love' armbands. Denmark will wear "toned-down" shirts to protest against Qatar, with kit provider Hummel saying it "does not wish to be visible" in a tournament it claims "has cost thousands of lives". Australia's squad have released a video urging Qatar to abolish its laws on same-sex relationships. Paris, and other

Costa Rica Final 26 Man squad for FIFA World Cup 2022

Final 26-man Costa Rica World Cup squad Manager Luis Fernando Suarez named his final squad on Thursday, November 3 and has opted for an eye toward the future. Nearly half his final World Cup roster is made up of players 25 years old or younger (11 of 26 total). But that also comes with some inexperience, as 11 members of the 26-man squad also have fewer than 10 international caps. Veterans Keylor Navas (35 years old), Kendall Waston (34), Celso Borges (34), Bryan Ruiz (37), and Joel Campbell (30) are all still there. In fact, the ex-Arsenal man Campbell is one of only three listed forwards on the final squad. Among the surprise omissions were attacking midfielder Randall Leal (Nashville SC), wingers Alonso Martinez (Lommel SK) and Ariel Lassiter (Inter Miami), and right-back Cristian Gamboa (VfL Bochum). A younger backup 'keeper Patrick Sequeira was also preferred over Alajuelense veteran Leonel Moreira. In the case of Herediano's Orlando Galo, the manager confirmed he would h
